                 I  haven't really used a reference photo, but I took a print screen from
                 The Pretty Reckless video "Going to Hell"

                 and took it from there.

                 

VOGUE-Madonna painting,Mechanical Pencil and charcoal

                     

                             I have wanted to do some fanart of Madonna for a long time,
                             and finally got to do it.
                             I got the idea by mixing a lot of her poses from the Vogue video,
                            and make it a little chat noir style.
                            I ended with making it with mechanical pencil and coal for
                            the background for good contrast.

                           The logo I made myself in Photoshop.

                     Hi guys!
                     This week, I have been working more on my Prismacolour skills-
                     the inspiration to this painting have been Alanna Myles "Black Velvet" video.
                     At first I actually thought of making her with the famous leather pants and
                     the white shirt, but I couldn't find a reference photo of her in the video that
                     I liked so I decided to go for this and I do not regret it;)
                 
                    A little tip from me, when you're in a creative process do not loose your head
                    if you discover that you actually want to make a different painting than the
                    one you had in mind at first. It is part of the fun to change your mind if you
                    see that the outcome will become better-of course that depends on what
                   you want to achive, but my experience is that you need to forgive yourself
                   a little bit as an artist-Things like the time you have available to make your paintings
                   also counts in the creative process, and it is important to remember that
                   you can still make fabolous art in short time if you just learn what works and
                   what doesn't work for you.

                  Anyway, here is the reference photo I ended up with:

               

As you can see, the background is pretty dark here, but my style is a bit lighter-I like to

 have a very light background, though I like to paint scary, dark things too but that's another story;)

-So I decided to make the colours a bit more cold to make it work in my painting-

and by that, I mean I made the highlights in her hair with a bit more blueish tone, and also

in her leather jacket to make the transition to become softer.

I did this by using a soft blending pencil.

I recommend this set if it's not an option to buy blending pencils seperately:

At least but not at last, I have been working on something I really neeeded-and that is a new logo

for myself.

Here is the final result:

I wanted something simple,but elegant that would also fit nicely into my drawings

without taking to much attention.

Since I use a lot of bright backgrounds I wanted something in silver.

The Demon and the Virgin-Isfolket fanart

    Hi guys.

    Dette ukene stykket er inspirert av Ifolket-romaner av Margit Sandemo-
    og i dette tilfellet, romanen "The Demon og Jomfru" også "Våroffer" (jeg vet ikke hvordan
   å oversette den siste-høres bare feil på engelsk.)
   
   -Så jeg plukket opp mitt Derwent Graphics sett, og et par av Lycra Art Design grafitt
    blyanter for skisserer.
    Jeg brukte stort sett bare for å penvils for dette-Derwent Graphic 5B og en billig blyant i 4B
    og bare lagt en liten gul i Photoshop CS5.

    Jeg har også laget en liten bakgrunnshistorie i maleriet-se? ;)

    Jeg elsker norske fairtytales og jeg kommer også fra Hallingdal, som har mange
    historier om mystiske vesener-Jeg får mye av min inspirasjon derfra,
 
   Uansett, ønsket jeg å lage flere tegninger fra disse bøkene og jeg ønsket også å
   gjøre Heike og Vinga fra Isfolket-romaner.
   Dette er ikke en scene fra boken, men jeg hadde litt i tankene når Heike og Vinga
   gjør den skremmende "The Grey People" kom ut.

  Jeg elsker Model kunst og selvfølgelig ønsker jeg å bli bedre på det, så jeg trodde dette var den
  perfekt tid for å praktisere mine ferdigheter. ;)

"Death Becomes Her"-fanart from the horror classic

                        I've had this idea for some time now and
                        finally I did it.
                        Do you guys to that sometimes?;)

                        By the way, no I did not draw the Goldie Hawn version from the movie-I
                       allowed myself to make her a bit more Jessica Rabbit-gone-zombie ;)
                        I love the red dress she has on the premiere in the beginning of the movie,
                        so I wanted to do that-but in my own interpretation.

                       I was also a bit inspired from the new horror-version of the classics that
                       you can get at the shop called Outland. They have titles like
                       instead of Pride and Prejudice, they`re called Prejudice and Zombies.
                      ( if you`re in Oslo and you`re a fantasy fan, be sure to drop by-they`ve got
                       everything from games, DVDs, lego, comic books,graphic novels-every
                       geek`s dream;)

SHAKIRA "She Wolf" fanart

                               
                       Hi guys-
                       this week`s piece is inspired from the music video by Shakira, obviously.
                       I had to make the shoes a bit more brighter than the reference photo.
                       (Sorry, I can not show you the reference photo anymore becouse the
                       page does not exist anymore.
                       However you can find similar pictures when you google Shakira-She wolf.)

                     The reference photo was also not the best, so I had to use my imagination a bit
                     when I had to get the anatomy right.

                      Anatomy lesson also is to remember that when someone changes their
                      expression they also change forexample the shape of the lips, their eyes..
                      so it is wise to practise facial expressions also.;)

                     I recommend drawing cartoon expressions-it is not so far from the real thing-
                     Angry, sad, confused, tired..yes we humans are quite funny to look at.;)
                     If you`re a beginner, I would like to give you the advice my art teacher gave us-
                     give yourself a day to just practise drawing ears.

                     It`s quite funny to see that even though you have seen ears like a thousand times,
                     the situation is different when you`re going to draw it.

                   I recommend Drawing for dummies, I got my copy at Outland.
                   They have digital art drawing books there too, I've got a few. Also, I think it`s good
                   to give yourself time to go through your inspiration books from time to time-it makes
                  you remember why so love drawing so much.;)

SEX & THE CITY FANART

                             
                           Hi guys-
                           time goes waaay to fast, it will be Christmas soon!
                         
                           This week`s piece is inspired by the series Sex & The City.
                          The teqhnicue is no mystery, just  painting & airbrushing in Photoshop,
                          and I also let myself be inspired by the dress Carrie used in the second movie-but
                          I used a bit brighter colours and blended it a bit more to make it look the
                         way I wanted.

                        I can not guarantee that it will be one more blog before Christmas, becouse
                        I`m currently working on a client mission plus my other job-but I will try;)

                       If you want me to make something I am still available for comissions but
                       my schedual is pretty buissy until january.

"ALL SHE EVER WANTED" Digital art,fanart+hair art tip

                       Hi guys,
                      and sorry about last week-
                      but no internet means -exactly-no blog!

                       But nevermind, this week`s piece was inspired by the novel
                       by Patrick Redmond-"All she ever wanted."

                      I love that book-It`s about a girl who experiences that her dad
                      which she loves more than anything in the word and leaves her with
                     a mom who hates her, and her class mates which bullies her.
                     But Tina finds out at an early age how anger can make her control
                     both her enemies and her mother-but what happens when you`re never
                     able to trust another person?

                     Tina in the book has gorgeous red hair so I wanted to make an illustration
                     which shows her when she is out on the town-
                     and also yes, the Jessica Rabbit look is intended;)

                        After the last blog, I got some requests on how I draw the hair
                        so I made a little                  
                        Hair tutorial:

                   

                   1.Make a layer. Name it Outline.
                    Start with the Round Point Stiff brush-this is already in your Photoshop pack.
                    Draw some simple strokes.

                 

                                       2. Use Hard Round Pressure Size. I usually make a layer under
                                           the one I just made.
                                            and experient a little-for this tutorial I use a brown colour-
                                           which is the most easy to look good.
                     

3.For this, you need a good hairbrush.

Check out deviantart and youtube for hair-brushes.

I recommend 

stephanie valentin photoshop hair on youtube,

 but you can also make your own brush, but there are lots of good hair brushes

 you can download for free.I recommend you download a lot and

try out what works best for you.

Anyway, use the hair brush( you can also use

Round Blunt Medium Stiff which is already in the Photoshop pack,or

Round Fan Stiff Thin Bristles. Experience with it:)

So what you do is make a layer above, name it "darker hair"

4.Then make a new layer, name it "highlights"

 and go to colour picker and select a colour wich is a about to colours lighter that

the darkest one that you already picked.Careful! If you pick a colour that

is too bright it will not blend.Trust me.

Use the smudge tool to blend with.Again, be careful.

Use the smudge tool also to soften the edges of the hair.

Congrats, you should now have some lovely hair and

 you should never again have to settle

for a bad hair day(haha:P)

LITTLE BIRD-Annie Lennox fanart,Illustrated Lyrics

                       Hi guys,

                      This weeks piece is inspired by  the Annie Lennox song
                       "Little Bird"-love that song!

                    Used reference photo-but I used brighter colours for the final drawing becouse
                    it looked better with the other colours I wanted to use.

                    Want to learnt the technique? If you are not sure how an animal looks like,
                    look at a reference photo and then make sketches or just imagine in your head
                    how you want the final piece will look like.

                   And remember, look at the colours from real life, draw it sketchly
                   at first, and then add colours with a round brush in Photoshop to get
                   the basic colours right. After that, you can have fun with adding light, strokes that
                  makes the picture stand out.

"Eternal sunday"-Bookillustration fanart, mixed media

                         I love books.Love them.
                         And I often let myself be inspired by books.
       
                         I am currently reading the book
                         "Evig søndag" by Linnèa Myhre.

                         First thing first, I do not claim any copyright to the book.
                         This is just fanart.

                         Also, I did this trying a completely new technique in Photoshop.
                   
                         It is drawn in Photoshop CS5 ,using a technique
                         called Cutout,  mixed with a sketch I did
                         traditionally.

THE UGLIES-Fanart,digital drawing.Ugly vs beautiful

                       TITLE: UGLY VS.BEAUTIFUL

                       This week it has been inspired from the book series
                        The Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld.

                       Now this was a fun,challeging thing to do.
                       In the books, everybody goes through an operation when they
                        are sixteen,to make them pretty.

                       Tally Youngblood is waiting for her turn, and I thought it
                       could be fun to draw her as she thinks she looks in the mirror-
                      an imagination where one half is the normal side, but the side which
                      she thinks is ugly becouse the society has taught her that it is so-
                       and the other side is the pretty one.

                      So for the record, this is not something personal, this is just how
                      I imagined her to be in the books, how she looked like.
